There are to be found interesting landmarks, various cafes and restaurants, street entertainers and street musicians. It is there that many open-air concerts are held and plenty of parades are being organized. There’s plenty of ski options within close distance to Marlyland -by for those wishing to try their hand at ‘boarding or skiing. We take a look at some of the top skiing options.

Wisp Resort

Wisp Resort founded in 1955 is the big resort that springs to mind with the population of Maryland. Located 4 hours from Baltimore, the resort is the only full ski slope resort in the whole of Maryland with 132 acres of skiable terrain whilst pretty incomparable to any of the European resorts, it consists of around 32 ski runs with the longest run standing at just 1.5 miles with the highest altitude up to 950m the Marsh Mountain is the most visited ski areas in the area. It is a 4 season resort with Winter and Spring bringing about some superb snow conditions whilst summer and autum provides some of the finest golfing conditions, add this to the white water rafting, kayaking and paintball on offer here during the summer, it really works as a year round mountain resort.

Whitetail Resort

White tail resort, at 264m is the third closest ski resort to Baltimore. It has an elevation of around 264m with 109 acres of skiable terrain with 9  up to date chairlifts with 21 skiable runs, the majority of which are aimed towards beginner to intermediates with a few advanced slopes, this really is a beginners paradise where the newcomers to the sports can get to grips with life on the mountain. It has a cumulative snowfall average of 1m per year, which whilst does not compared to its American cousins in the rockies, can still compete with the guys over the otherside of the Atalantic. With the longest run 1.5km, the legendary ‘limelight’ amongst the folk from Clear Spring Marlyand. As with many resorts around this area they are all owned by 1 group, Snow Time INC have invested heavily and made this an excellent resort for weekly/weekend goers.
Roundtop Mountain resort

One of the smaller players you have Round Top. A cracking resort where a lot of local families start their children off skiing with plenty of supervision for kids. Whilst small it is local which is why so many people enjoy the resort with just a 1 ½ journey to get to the resort itself it is simple for a day trip The resort itself does work better for the summer with zip lines and bumper boats, but it’s worth a trip if you are in the area., with a top elevation of 427m and 9 chairlift, come have a go!

Ski Liberty

Ski Libety is the closest area to Washington and just a short journey from Baltimore, lets be honest, the resort has been an absolute hit as a Snowtubing heaven. It does have limited terrain but what can you expect from a resort that is so close to Washington and made predominantly of man made snow just 1hr 20 from Baltimore. There are plenty of clinics and ski schools here which again as with Round top makes it an excellent resort to hit with younger families or if you are just initiating yourself into the sport, and contrary to European myths, the ‘apres’ can get quite interesting at the local Lodge.
Snowshoe Mountain

Is one of the highest and larger resorts near Baltimore located at 1000m resort level with a top elevation of 1478m, the resort has a lovely charm to it, and with 60 runs with 14 chairlifts, the resort is busy throughout the winter. Thorny flat is the renowned peak at the top altitude and averages up to 4 1/2 m of snow per year. Whilst it retains charm of a typical alpine resort it also has a town feel with all the major chains. With hotels all around the place it is no surprise that Intrawest the guys behind some of the major Canadian players got involved with the resort.  At 480,000 visitors per year, if you are doing a tour of Washington State, certainly include this resort in your plans.
